Hyaluronic-acid filler restores volume and shape where the face has lost it, or where you would like a little more. Rocio, APRN, works conservatively, aiming for a face that looks rested, not “done”.
What is dermal filler?
The fillers Rocio uses most are made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar your skin already contains, in a gel that holds its shape: Versa, RHA and Evolysse. Placed under the skin, it adds volume and support where it is injected, and the body breaks it down slowly over months. For structure in the chin and jawline she also uses Radiesse, a calcium-based filler that is not hyaluronic acid and cannot be dissolved.
Where is filler used?
Filler is used for the lips, cheeks and midface, under-eye hollows, nasolabial folds, chin, jawline. The areas work together: supporting the cheek often softens the folds below it, which is why Rocio looks at the whole face before treating one line.
Natural, not overdone
Most people who dislike the look of filler are reacting to too much of it, in the wrong place. Rocio would rather build a result over two visits than overfill in one.
Can filler be dissolved?
Yes, hyaluronic-acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if it is ever needed, whether for a result someone doesn’t like or, rarely, a complication. Rocio keeps hyaluronidase at the studio.
After your treatment
For the first four hours, don't touch or press on the treated area, and stay upright: no bending over or lying flat. For 24 hours, skip exercise that makes you sweat, and alcohol. Then leave your face alone for two weeks, with no facials or massage over the treated areas, while the filler settles. Rocio sees you again at two weeks to check the result and make any small adjustment.
Common questions
How long does filler last?
Filler usually lasts six to eighteen months. Lips, which move constantly, are at the shorter end; cheeks and chin often last longer. The product used matters too.
How long do swelling and bruising last?
Swelling is usually most noticeable for two to three days and settles over about two weeks. Bruising is possible and usually fades within a week; avoiding alcohol and, with your doctor’s agreement, blood-thinning supplements for a few days beforehand helps.
Can filler be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic-acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which is one reason it is the most common type used on the face. Rocio keeps it at the studio.
Does it hurt?
A topical numbing cream is applied first, and most fillers contain a local anaesthetic (lidocaine), so most people find it very tolerable. Lips are the most sensitive area.
How far ahead of an event should I book?
At least two weeks ahead, so swelling and any bruising have settled and there is time for a small adjustment if you want one.
Is filler safe?
Filler placed by a trained, licensed injector has a good safety record, but it is a medical procedure with real risks, including rare but serious ones such as a blocked blood vessel. Rocio goes through them with you before treatment and tells you exactly what to watch for afterwards.
This is general education, not a treatment plan. What you actually need depends on your anatomy, muscle strength, and goals — Rocio determines that with you in person.
